ORC SPORTBOAT EUROPEAN CHAMPIOSHIP – DAY 2 REPORT
After yesterday’s coastal race that took the fleet of 29 boats from Portorož to Izola and back, the ORC Sportboat European Championship continued today with two inshore races. 18 teams in division A and 12 in Division B were treated with plenty of sunshine in the Bay of Piran as light winds hampered the afternoon’s action.
Familiarity with the courses and weather conditions in Portorož paid off for Arkanoe by Montura who is a regular guest of Melges events in the Slovenian waters. They delivered a victory and a 5th place in today’s second race, which was completed in a dying, very unsettled breeze. After being the top Corinthian finisher at the 2016 ORC Sportboat European Championship in Chioggia, the team now leads in Division A with just one point of margin ahead of Tiburon.
A pair of bullets gained in light sea breeze conditions give Alberto Leghissa and the crew of Chardonnay the overall lead in Division B.
The forecast for tomorrow is for an easterly/north-easterly wind of around 6 kts, meaning competitors will face another tactically demanding day. The starting gun is set for 12:00.
